The Department of Public is a division of the Office of Finance and Administration and is responsible for all campus security, environmental health and safety, parking enforcement, and emergency management at both Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College (NTC). The department provides 24-hour campus patrols, emergency services, escorts, building security, and many other services. The department also works closely with local law enforcement agencies in crime prevention and investigations. The Office of the President has granted this department the authority to take appropriate action necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment on all property owned, leased, or occupied by BSU and NTC. Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center

Through its varied activities, this center encourages fitness and recreation as an integral part of university life. The Center is open for informal or open recreation seven days a week during the academic year. Center facilities include a rock climbing wall; a 200-meter indoor track; five racquetball/handball courts; free and fixed weight rooms; cardiovascular machines; a dance studio; a six-lane, 25-yard pool; four activity spaces adaptable for basketball, tennis, volleyball, and badminton.

For a listing of services provided by Hobson Union, see the Union’s description under “The BSU Campus” in Section I. The Upper Union also houses a resource center, the Hobson Harbor for Organizations (H2O): A Center for Student Involvement, where student organizations network with each other and where computer access and mailboxes are provided for organization business. H2O staff assists students who may want to get involved in an organization or have questions about creating a new organization. The Lower Union houses the student-led Excellence in Leadership Center (ELC), which provides a model for developing and engaging students in civic leadership. It also houses the Suit Yourself program, a ‘Free’ store, and Students in Service (SIS) program. Check out the website for more information.

ID Cards - Picture Identification

Picture identification cards are required of all students. They may be obtained at the Information Desk in the Union. The card serves as the meal card for students on a meal plan. The card also is required for checking out materials from the Library, cashing checks on campus, receiving student rates at campus events, and gaining admission to University facilities. Only valid cards held by registered students are accepted at campus locations. A student’s first card is free; replacement of a lost ID is $20.00.
