Preprimary Specialty Licensure Program

The coordinator for the Preprimary Specialty is

The Preprimary Specialty is intended for teachers who already hold either the traditional Elementary Education license or the new K–6 with Middle Level Content license. The Preprimary Specialty extends these teaching licenses to include children aged three and up and provides coursework and practice teaching experience in both prekindergarten and kindergarten classrooms. The coordinator is willing to assess prior kindergarten and/or prekindergarten teaching experience with the student. Graduate students with prior preprimary teaching experience may substitute other approved early childhood courses for the preprimary student teaching requirement.

The Preprimary Specialty includes:

ED 5670 Foundations of Early Childhood Education (3 credits)
ED 5677 Relations and Management in Early Childhood Education (3 credits)
ED 5700 Developmentally Appropriate Preprimary Education (3 credits)
ED 5811 Preprimary Student Teaching (3-10 credits)
