Traditionally Criminal Justice includes the study of law (constraints on individual freedoms) and order (guarantees of constitutional rights). Criminal justice activities usually focus on the protection and maintenance of the status quo. However, as our society becomes more pluralistic, criminal justice professionals are being called upon as liaisons, brokers and agents of change.
Students considering a major in Criminal Justice are encouraged to develop a proficiency in writing. Completion of the four year Criminal Justice degree at Bemidji State University satisfies the Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) academic requirements. At present, law enforcement opportunities are especially good for female and minority Criminal Justice Graduates.
