Area of Study

Four major components of peace and justice are ecological balance, economic well-being, sociopolitical justice, and nonviolent conflict management and conflict resolution. Study and research in these areas help promote the development of a sustainable global future by fostering peaceful growth and change in communities, nations, and the world.

The Peace and Justice Studies minor offers a multidisciplinary curriculum that includes consideration of local, national, and global problems; the conditions necessary for achieving peace and justice; conflict management and resolution at all levels; and the responsibilities of global citizenship at the dawn of the twenty-first century.

This minor enhances undergraduate majors in all fields, including the sciences, the humanities, arts, business, and professions. Students interested in pursuing graduate work in peace studies or conflict management and resolution are strongly encouraged to complete the Peace and Justice Studies minor.

Note: The Peace and Justice Studies minor enables students to contribute to the achievement of a sustainable global future while pursuing careers in their major fields. The minor can also be an important step in the development of careers in peace education, peace research, conflict management and resolution, and nonviolent social change.
