Area of Study

While the term science is applied generally to the study of natural phenomena, in the Science degree program at Bemidji State University it applies to a combined study of the life, earth and physical sciences in the context of teacher certification for grades five through nine. This "broad science" degree is favored by school districts for their junior high/middle school science positions, especially if it is combined with coaching certification.

Students in this program are encouraged to minor in one of the areas studied, and to plan on returning to the University for enrichment in subjects they contract to teach. Note: This licensure is not applicable to grades ten through twelve, nor does it prepare students for graduate study in major science areas. It does prepare them for the master's degree in science education.
