Although a an elected interest area is not required,
students having a well-defined interest area within the broad
outline of an economics major may wish to specialize in one of the
following fields of emphasis. In addition to electives offered by
the Economics Department, there are a number of related courses in
other departments that may substitute for economics electives with
the approval of the Department Chair. Examples of some of these
courses are included below and any of those listed may be counted
towards the guided electives requirement in economics. There are
other classes which might also be appropriate.

Suggested Schedule For Economics Majors
The following is a list of required Economics Major
courses arranged by year. This schedule is intended to help
students plan their courses in an orderly fashion; however, these
are only suggestions and this schedule is flexible.
Freshman
Liberal Education requirements (It is particularly
important to take MATH 100 and/or 112 if the student has a
deficiency in high school algebra.)
Students can complete some of the Principles of Economics
sequence as freshmen, but this is not necessary or encouraged.
