Earth Science Minor, B.S. and B.A.

The Earth Science Minor is designed to support other fields such as geography, biology, physics and chemistry. It provides sufficient depth to expand the usefulness of the major. The Earth Science Minor supports, but does not, in and by itself, lead to a career choice.

I.Transfer students must take a minimum of 6 quarter hours in the minor at Bemidji State University.

II. Required Courses

• BIOL 362 Environmental Conservation (4 credits)
• GEOL 111, 112, 113 General Geology (12 credits)
• GEOL 321 Hydrogeology I (4 credits)
• SCI 210 Astronomy I (4 credits)
• SCI 303 Meterology (4 credits)

Subtotal: 24 credits

III. Required Electives

Select at least 2 of the following courses totaling a minimum of 8 quarter hours:

• GEOL 201 Mineralogy (4 credits)
• GEOL 202 Petrology (4 credits)
• GEOL 301 Geochemistry (4 credits)
• GEOL 340 Glacial and Pleistocene Geology (4 credits)
• GEOL 342 Geomorphology (4 credits)
• GEOL 350 Introduction to Paleontology (4 credits)

Earth Science Minor, B.S. (Teacher Licensure)

The Earth Science Minor (Teacher Licensure) is designed to support teaching degrees in related fields such as geography, biology, physics, and chemistry. It provides sufficient depth to expand the usefulness of the major, but does not, in and by itself, lead to a career choice.

NOTE: Candidates seeking teacher certification in a minor must take the Education Methods course specific to that minor. See Course Offerings under Professional Education.

II. Required Courses

• GEOL 111, 112, 113 General Geology (12 credits)
• SCI 210 Astronomy (4 credits)
