Geography Major, B.S.

Required Core, All Fields of Emphasis

Required Core: 36 credits

Required Field of Emphasis: Select One

*Note: Fields of Emphasis B, C and D, "planning" fields, are intended for students anticipating a career in regional, community, land use, recreational, or natural resource planning.

Field of Emphasis A: Traditional

Field A is intended for students preparing for graduate work or a non-teaching career in geography. Majors in this option are expected to complete English 220 prior to their senior year.

  • GEOG 330 Geography and Planning of Outdoor Recreation (4 credits)
  • GEOG 400 Geography of Population and Settlement (4 credits)
  • GEOG 402 Urban Geography (4 credits)
Select one of the following courses:
  • GEOG 380 Regional Geography (must be outside US or Canada) (4 credits)
  • GEOG 381 Geography of Europe (4 credits)
  • GEOG 382 Geography of East Asia (4 credits)
  • GEOG 383 Geography of South Asia (4 credits)

The following is a list of Geography Major courses arranged by year. This schedule is intended to help students plan their courses in an orderly fashion; however, these are only suggestions and this schedule is flexible. Majors and minors in geography are strongly encouraged to meet with advisers in the Geography Department prior to selecting courses.

Social Studies Major, B.S. (Teacher Licensure)

GEOGRAPHY EMPHASIS

Students wishing to teach geography at the secondary level should take the Social Studies Major, B.S. (Teacher Licensure) and elect emphasis D. By additionally taking the Geography Major, B.S. a student can further increase his or her employability and depth of understanding in the field.


Geography Minor
