Art Major, B.S. (Teacher Licensure, Kindergarten-Grade 12)

I.Transfer students must earn a minimum of 33 quarter hours in this major at Bemidji State University (see Visual Arts introduction).

  • VSAR 222 Introduction to Watercolor (3 credits)
  • VSAR 225 Printmaking Relief (3 credits)
  • VSAR 227 Printmaking - Itaglio (3 credits)
  • VSAR 228 Printmaking - Lithography (3 credits)
  • VSAR 247 Introduction to Ojibwe Crafts (3 credits)
  • VSAR 270 Computer Imaging (3 credits)

Subtotal: 9 credits

Also select one of the following courses:
  • VSAR 258 Survey of American Indian Art (4 credits)
  • VSAR 354 Early 20th Century Art (4 credits)
  • VSAR 357 Oriental Art (4 credits)

IV. Required Concentration

A concentration consists of a combination of courses and experiences using a shared technique, medium or process in a studio area of art. Typical concentrations would be painting, metals, graphics, printmaking, etc. Concentration areas may also consist of community-based activities related to museums, art centers or schools systems. Areas of study should be selected with the help of the advisor. Students may elect to form two fields of 6 quarter hours each, or a single concentration of 12 quarter hours.
