Prekindergarten Teacher Licensure

The prekindergarten licensure extension is a 20 semester credit program for education majors and a 24 semester credit program for majors in other programs. (Non-Education majors must also take ED 3140 and HLTH 3400.)

I. Required Courses

ED 3670 Foundations of Kindergarten and Early Childhood Education (3 credits)
ED 3677 Relations and Management in Early Childhood Education (3 credits)
ED 3500 Teaching Young Children with Special Needs (3 credits)
PSY 3377 Typical and Atypical Development of Preschool Children (2 credits)

Subtotal 11 Credits

II. Required Directed Alternative Curriculum Courses

Select one of the following:
  1. ED 4700 Developmentally Appropriate Early Childhood Education (3 credits)
  2. ED 3510 Sensory Integration in Young Children (3 credits)
    and MUS 3604 Music Methods and Materials: Pre-K to Fifth Grade (3 credits)

Subtotal 3-6 Credits

III. Required Directed Alternative Family Courses

Select one family course from the following:

ED 4750 Family, School, Community Relations (3 credits)
SOWK 3110 Parent-Child Relations in Contemporary Family Forms (3 credits)
SOWK 3201 Family: Dynamics and Intervention (3 credits)

IV. Required Student Teaching
