Bemidji State University was founded as a teacher education institution. The Department of Professional Education, building on that history, has developed a Teacher Education Model that determines the outcomes for its majors. It is based on six goal areas: Liberal Education, accommodation of diverse learner needs, understanding of current teaching methods, knowledge of educational research, reflective professional development, and collaboration with parents and professionals. The Model is fully described in the Department's Handbook for Education Majors.
New State of Minnesota teacher licensure rules may go into effect Fall 1998. Before registering for classes, please consult the revised Handbook for Teacher Education Students, available in the office of the Department of Education.
See Section II, Enrollment for required high school preparation.
Recommended High School CoursesTransfer Students: At least one-third of the credits to be included in the major must be successfully completed at Bemidji State University.
Students are encouraged to discuss with their advisor the option of a second major or minor that might strengthen or complement their major.
