In Vocational Education, theories and other philosophical approaches to education are taught in the context of practical experience. For example, students who wish to teach in the construction area will already have work experience in that area. In the Vocational Education program, that experience is combined with teacher methodologies such as task analysis. Vocational Education offers degree and non-degree licensures. State of Minnesota Vocational Education licensure requires trade experience.
Note: Students interested in teaching vocational education who do not yet have work experience may consider a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Vocational Training. See the "Industrial Technology" section in this catalog.
The Bachelor of Science in Vocational Education does not meet licensure requirements for secondary school teaching in industrial arts or business education.
See Section II, Enrollment for required high school preparation.
Note: exceptions may be made based on work experience. Contact the Office of Admissions or the Vocational Education advisor.
Other Recommended PreparationStudents are encouraged to discuss with their advisor the option of a second major or minor that might strengthen or complement their major.
