Requirements, All Licensures

The recommendation to endorse for licensure is made by the Registrar to the Minnesota Department of Education, Teacher Licensure Section. This recommendation is subject to the following general requirements:

  1. A minimum grade point average requirement for completion is 2.75 for undergraduate courses and a 3.00 for graduate level courses.
  2. A minimum of 2/3 of all course work, including practicum, must be taken from Bemidji State University.
  3. Practicum credits from another institution will not be accepted as meeting a practicum requirement in a licensure program.
  4. Transfer and substitute courses used to fulfill licensure requirements must receive the approval of the program director, the Chair of the Department of Professional Education, and the Registrar.
  5. Courses in the licensure program are not available on a Pass/No Pass basis.

Licensure requirements are determined by the Minnesota State Board of Teaching. Modifications in licensure requirements are subject to change. Frequent consultation with an advisor is strongly recommended.

Graduate semester credits obtained in any of the licensure programs may be applied to a fifth year of an undergraduate degree program; however, admission to graduate studies must be completed prior to the completion of ten (10) semester credits.
