Both the Psychology and Applied Psychology majors emphasize psychology as a scientific discipline. All students become directly involved in independent research activities and/or applied human service skills development. Students studying for the Applied Psychology B.S. or the Psychology B.A. or B.S. degree prepare to continue their education at the graduate level or go on to psychology related employment at the bachelor's degree level. However, students majoring in Psychology receive particular preparation for graduate study and broad preparation for psychology related employment, while students majoring in Applied Psychology receive skills training for more specialized human service employment. Students studying for teacher licensure prepare to teach in secondary schools.
Notes: Applied Psychology B.S. majors should take PSY 203, 235 and 371 as soon as possible. Psychology B.A. and B.S. majors should take PSY 301, 302 and 350 as soon as possible.
Advanced degrees are required for the following representative careers: child psychologist, clinical psychologist, college professor, experimental psychologist, industrial psychologist, rehabilitation counselor, school psychologist, and secondary school counselor.
