202 GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY II (3 credits). A continuation of General Psychology I. Prerequisite: PSY 201. (Applies to Liberal Education Area V ).

203 INTRODUCTION TO APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY (3 credits ). Introduction to the field of applied psychology, exploration of human services treatment modalities, survey of agencies and services. Volunteer service is required of the student.

230 ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY (4 credits). Mental disorders and behavioral deviations: causes, manifestations, and treatment. Prerequisite: PSY 202.

234 HUMAN SEXUALITY (4 credits ). A survey of the physiological aspects of human sexual behavior with an emphasis on healthy sexual adjustment within the total context of human interaction.

235 INTERPERSONAL SKILLS (4 credits). A basic course to help students investigate and understand their interactions with others, focusing on understanding oneself, developing interpersonal skills, and the effective use of self-disclosure and feedback to develop basic interpersonal skills. Prerequisite: PSY 203 or consent of instructor.

240 CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOLOGY (4 credits ). Review of theories and research on the psychological, physiological, and environmental factors influencing child and adolescent development. Individual differences and adolescent problems of adjustment. Methods and skills in assessment, recording, and observation. Prerequisite: PSY 202.

250 INVESTIGATION OF BEHAVIOR (4 credits ). Basic research and statistical concepts underlying the study of behavior. May not be applied to Psychology major after completion of PSY 301. Prerequisite: PSY 202.

301 INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICS (4 credits ). Designed for students in behavioral and social sciences. Measures of central tendency and variability, normal and binomial distributions, simple probability, linear correlation and elementary significance and testing procedures. Prerequisite: MATH 112 or equivalent, or consent of instructor.

302 STATISTICAL INFERENCE (4 credits). A continuation of PSY 301. Significance of the mean and other statistics, significance of the difference between means and other statistics, tests of hypotheses. Chi square test, t-test, introduction to analysis of variance. Prerequisite: PSY 301.

315 PSYCHOLOGY OF LIVING IN ISOLATED AND CONFINED ENVIRONMENTS (3 credits ). A study of the psychological factors involved in planning the environment and selecting the crew for human space missions of one or two years without crew rotation. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisites: PSY 201, 202.

318 HUMAN RESPONSE TO DEATH (3 credits ). A psychological approach to death as a major event in human life. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisite: PSY 202.

321 LEARNING AND COGNITION (4 credits). Survey of research, theories, and applications in the areas of classical and operant conditioning and cognition. Prerequisite: PSY 202.

324 PSYCHOLOGY OF MEASUREMENT (4 credits ). A study of psychological test theory and construction followed by an examination of established psychological tests. Prerequisite: PSY 250 or PSY 301.

331 PRINCIPLES OF BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION (4 credits ). Practical applications of learning principles to human problems in various settings. Operant conditioning techniques and recent trends in cognitive behavior therapy are covered. Prerequisite: PSY 321 or consent of instructor.

332 GROUP PROCESSES (4 credits ). The examination and practical application of principles and dynamics underlying group behavior from a psychological perspective. Prerequisite: PSY 202.

333 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (4 credits ). Survey of contemporary research in affiliation, interpersonal perception and attraction, aggression and altruism, group dynamics, conformity, compliance and attitude formation, and change. Prerequisite: PSY 202.

334 INDUSTRIAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY (4 credits ). The application of psychological theories, methods and principles of people in work settings. Personal selection, evaluation, and training. Work motivation and job satisfaction. Leadership. Organizational factors and working conditions. Human factors engineering. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisite: PSY 202.

343 PSYCHOLOGY OF ADULTHOOD AND AGING (4 credits ). Psychological and physiological characteristics of mature individuals and the elderly, with emphasis on cognitive, affective, and behavioral change. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisites: PSY 202 or consent of the instructor.

344 TYPICAL AND ATYPICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE PRESCHOOL CHILD (3 credits ). A study of research and theories pertaining to the typical and atypical development of the preschool child in the intellectual, emotional, social, cultural, and physical areas. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisite: PSY 202. NOTE: This course may not be applied to the psychology major.

350 INTRODUCTION TO EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY (4 credits ). Introduction to the scientific method as applied to psychology, with emphasis on specific laboratory procedure, research design, statistical applications, and report writing. Prerequisites: PSY 202 and 302.

367 TOPICS IN PSYCHOLOGY (1-3 credits ). An in-depth study of topics of current interest in psychology. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisite: PSY 202.

371 CRISIS INTERVENTION (4 credits). Techniques of crisis intervention and crisis management. Prerequisites: PSY 203, 230, 235.

381 BASIC COUNSELING TECHNIQUE (4 credits ). A practical introduction to counseling techniques including interviewing and behavioral observation directed toward history taking, intakes, and problem identification. A skill-technique building laboratory is included. Prerequisites: PSY 203, 235, 371, and 483.

382 FAMILY SYSTEMS (4 credits ). An introduction to family systems theories and interview techniques. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisites: PSY 230 and 381 or consent of instructor.

445 COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY (4 credits). An examination of current models and research in the areas of cognition and memory with emphasis on human information processing. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisite: PSY 301 or consent of instructor.

446 SENSATION AND PERCEPTION (4 credits ). A study of the process by which an organism receives or extracts information about the environment and of the physiological bases of the process. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisite: PSY 350 or consent of instructor.

452 RESEARCH LABORATORY: SOCIAL/PERSONALITY (2 credits ). Supervised, original research in social or personality psychology or related area. Must be taken twice, in two consecutive quarters. The first quarter consists of literature review, research proposal, and pilot research. The second quarter consists of data collection, data analysis, and final report preparation. Prerequisites: PSY 350 and one of PSY 333, 483 or consent of instructor.

453 RESEARCH LABORATORY: COGNITION/PERCEPTION (2 credits ). Supervised, original research in cognition or perception psychology or related area. Must be taken twice, in two consecutive quarters. The first quarter consists of data collection, data analysis, and final report preparation. literature review, research proposal, and pilot research. Prerequisites: PSY 350 and one of PSY 445, 446 or consent of instructor.

463 HISTORY AND SYSTEMS OF PSYCHOLOGY (4 credits ). Contemporary issues and theories in psychology and their historical developments. Prerequisites: PSY 350 and a completion of a minimum of 24 quarter hours in psychology or consent of instructor.

464 COMPUTER APPLICATIONS AND ADVANCED STATISTICS (4 credits ). A continuation of PSY 302. Advanced ANOVA designs, special correlation methods and computer applications. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisite: PSY 302.

465 PHYSIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY (4 credits ). An examination of current research and theory concerning the physiological correlates of human behavior. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisite: PSY 202.

475 HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAM MANAGEMENT (4 credits ). General program management in public service settings including administration, evaluation, and grant writing. Prerequisite: PSY 203 and 324.

483 PERSONALITY THEORY (4 credits). A survey of theories of personality development. Prerequisite: PSY 230 or consent of instructor.

484 PSYCHOLOGY PRE-INTERNSHIP SEMINAR (1 credit ). Selection of internship site and preparation for internship responsibilities. NOTE: Restricted to Psychology and Applied Psychology: Human Services Majors.

485 INTERNSHIP (6-18 credits ). Graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory only.

492 ADVANCED SEMINAR IN PSYCHOLOGY (1-4 credits ). Selected topics in psychology explored in depth. (May not be offered every year.) Prerequisites: psychology major or minor and senior status, or consent of instructor.
