In Career and Technical Education, theories and other philosophical approaches to education are taught in the context of practical experience. For example, students who wish to teach in the construction area will already have work experience in that area, and that experience is complemented with teaching methodologies. Career and Technical Education offers degree and non-degree licensures. State of Minnesota Career and Technical Education licensure requirements vary between secondary and post-secondary levels. Individuals should consult with an advisor to determine the specific requirements for their field.
Note: Students interested in teaching career and technical education who do not yet have work experience may consider a bachelor of science degree in Technology Education. (See the Technological Studies section in this catalog.)
The Bachelor of Science in Career and Technical Education does not meet licensure requirements for secondary school teaching in technology education or business education.
Teacher licensure requirements vary significantly between secondary and postsecondary Career and Technical Education. There are many options and specializations, and appropriate subsequent courses to complete. Various methods of documenting related work experience may also be required.
