SPAN 3850 Art and Conflict in Spain and Latin America (3 credits)

Explores instances of artistic resistance to violence in Spain and Latin America. The history of Spain and Latin America abounds in episodes of conflict: dictatorships, wars, forced displacement and human exploitation. This courses studies how artists, writers, musicians, and filmmakers represented and resisted censorship and repression in Spain and Latin America. Through primary sources (films, artwork, poetry, and other texts) and historical accounts, students became aware of the cultures of protest created by those artists. This course is conducted in Spanish so students strengthen their language proficiency and communicative skills. Prerequisite(s): SPAN 2212 or consent of the instructor. Liberal Education Goal Area 6. Might not be offered every year.
