MUS 2400 Music and Film (3 credits)

This course examines the evolution of film music as an art form. Representative film scores will be analyzed from historical, stylistic, structural, aesthetic, and technical perspectives. Divided into three parts, this course will familiarize the student with (1) the terminology, theory, and methods that film scholars employ when analyzing and interpreting film soundtracks; (2) the three core components of a film's soundtrack: dialogue, music, and sound; and (3) the relationship between the soundtrack and imagetrack.
