Agenda

Introductions

ASF’s next membership meeting is scheduled for Nov. 15, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., location TBA

Treasurer’s Report

Stephanie Bard – ASF has a current balance of $2,076.78, which will drop to $1,656.34 after paying for today’s lunch.

Zak Johnson – Unit has a $300 check coming from the state once we turn in an annual report.

Call for Campus Treasurer

Zak Johnson – With Aya Leonhardt’s departure, Stephanie Bard has been named interim treasurer. ASF is looking for a new treasurer to serve the remainder of Aya’s two-year appointment, which runs through June 30, 2018. All are welcome to nominate ASF members for this position, and members may self-nominate. Nominations may be sent to Zak by Sept. 23; a ballot will be sent to all members if multiple nominations are received. Stephanie has agreed to serve as a trainer for anyone interested in serving as treasurer.

Stephanie Bard – is available to answer questions anyone may have about serving as treasurer.

New BSU-MSUAASF website

Andy Bartlett presented an early look at a revised ASF website.

Federal Labor Standards Act update

Zak Johnson – anyone working in office that will be affected by upcoming FLSA changes, which go into effect on Dec. 1, should be working directly with Human Resources.

Information presented at the Aug. 3 Meet and Confer was reviewed regarding new salary threshold in place for positions to be exempt from FLSA; non-exempt positions are subject to overtime for working more than 40 hours per week. Human Resources is working now to review positions at BSU that will be affected by this change in preparation for a system office report due Nov. 1. After reviews, individual plans will be developed for non-exempt positions.

Q: Loralyn Kuechle asked how the start date would be determined for the beginning of overtime eligibility, given that Dec. 1 is a Thursday.
A: No information available on this.

ASF Awards

Zak Johnson recapped information discussed at Aug. 31 Meet & Confer regarding ASF incentive awards.

  • Special Initiative Awards. Members who have submitted special initiative awards have been told that administration wishes to keep the application process open long enough so that all proposals can be reviewed at the same time. Members who are planning to apply for Special Incentive Awards are asked to submit timelines for their proposals to Zak Johnson prior to Sept. 23.
Special Initiative Awards are for projects that go above and beyond a member’s typical duties, and can involve partnerships with other offices on campus. Previous projects done as part of this program have been StrengthsQuest and the Advising Success Center.
  • Steps are being taken to ensure BSU has a nominee for this year’s ASF Professional Excellence Award. Michelle Frenzel was our nominee in 2014-15, but we had no nominee last year. Call for nominees from the system office goes to the university’s Chief Academic Officer, and ASF has asked that we be included in this call for nominees so we can ensure BSU is represented for the system award.
  • Brief recap of honoraria, which are given for work done above and beyond typical responsibilities. For example, Beaver Success coaches receive honoraria for that work.
  • ASF is working with administration to solidify timelines and expectation for Exceptional Achievement Incentive Award applications, and to clarify budget questions related to payment of awards. ASF also hopes these processes can help eliminate inconsistencies in how applications are processed by management.

Other

Campus Evaluation Committee

Zak Johnson — There is a need for more ASF members to have Campus Evaluation Committee training, which would expand the pool of people able to assist with this process as we enter a period where many positions are expected to be submitted for evaluation. With few trained members, members on leave or out sick can lead to delays in the review process. We need members to serve as CEC alternates in much the same way we have alternates for Meet & Confer.

Jodi Monerson recapped her experience with the online training offered for this committee, saying it wasn’t particularly difficult and took a few hours.

All-Campus Health Fair and National Run at Work Day

Angie Gora encouraged members to attend the all-campus health fair on Oct. 12. Members can bring insurance cards and receive flu shots at the fair.

She also promoted National Run at Work Day and encouraged everyone to walk or run on that day. Living Well, Working Well committee is also launching another Beaver Fever virtual 5k. Run data can be posted to the Gillett Wellness Center’s Facebook page and successful participants can purchase a completion medal for $8 at the wellness center information desk.
