Upcoming events at the Center for Research and Innovation

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Jan. 4, 2010) — Upcoming events at the Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation include a Brown Bag Lunch session on the web mapping capabilities available to Beltrami County and the first Northern Minnesota Safety Council presentation of 2010, focusing on ergonomics and its impact on workman’s comp.

All events are held at the Center for Research and Innovation, 3801 Bemidji Ave. N., Bemidji.

Brown Bag Lunch: “Interactive Web Mapping: A Beltrami County Demonstration.”
Presenter: Jane Mueller, director, Beltrami County geographic information systems
Mueller will be demonstrating Beltrami County’s interactive web mapping capabilities. Topics will include how to search for features such as land parcels, specific addresses, lakes and cemeteries, understanding and using aerial photographs, using tools to define measurements, adding annotation to a map, adding a point using known latitude and longitude coordinates or finding the coordinates from a map, generating mailing labels of parcel owners, and how to print or save maps to your computer.

Northern Minnesota Safety Council: “Ergonomics and Reducing the Pain in Worker’s Comp.”
Presenter: Joe Kapaun, Choice Therapy
Kapaun, who holds a certification in workplace ergonomics from WorkWell, Inc., has been a regular presenter on workplace safety issues at the CRI and specializes in the prevention of workplace injuries. His presentation will focus on appropriate office ergonomics and equipment options to help reduce repetitive-stress injuries in the workplace.
