First impressions are everything in today’s world. Many prospective students first encounter Bemidji State online or on social media. The Office of Communications and Marketing’s digital and social media team are essential to building BSU’s brand by supporting the website and social media channels needed to engage and inform our audience. We work with the campus community to develop strategic digital communications that build the university’s brand and reputation online.

Website

The Bemidji State Office of Communications and Marketing manages the bemidjistate.edu home page and many other strategic websites that serve as front doors to BSU. Using the centralized editor system, the Web Content Team collaborates with academic departments and offices to develop and curate the content on their websites.

Social Media Branding

The Office of Communications & Marketing maintains the official social media presence for Bemidji State University on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other popular networks.

The social media team, comprised of brand and university student ambassadors hired by the OCM and the Office of Admissions, oversees the strategic direction and development of all university-wide social accounts, as well as college-, school- and program-level presences, to encourage collaboration, unified messaging and proper brand representation.

Not surprisingly, social media works best when it’s social — when the university has the ability to share and celebrate with our audiences the wonderful things that happen on campus each and every day. If your office or department maintains an official social media channel, we want to know about it. We frequently share content from our friends on social media, and we’d love to share yours as well.

The associate director of communication and marketing maintains the official social leadership listing, accounts inventory and policy and provides social media consultation and training.

Digital Signage on Campus

The Office of Communications & Marketing maintains content found on Bemidji State University’s Bemidji Ave. roadside marquee near the corner of Paul Bunyan Drive and 19th Street, and for the Northwest Technical College sign located near the corner of Grant Ave. and Paul Bunyan Drive SE.

The marquee at BSU exists exclusively to promote the college and university and is maintained by the Office of Communications & Marketing. Marquee messages are intended to promote and reinforce the BSU brand.

Several buildings at BSU and the NTC campus are also equipped with a digital signage system using large televisions installed in high-traffic locations. These screens are meant to provide news and reminders about events, activities and important dates on campus to pedestrian audiences in the buildings where they are installed.

OCM has the ability to schedule emergency messaging across all signs on the Tightrope system simultaneously.

Consulting & Planning

Our assistant director provides guidance on website design and content management to help BSU maximize website effectiveness through metrics, content strategy, design and development. We also provide guidance on best practices for usability and accessibility to improve site functionality and remove barriers to information.

The social media team is available as a resource for social media consultation, training, content collaboration and developing unified social media messaging.
