English Education Bachelor of Science

Our English education program is taught by dedicated instructors who know what it takes to become an English teacher.

The English Education Program

The English Education B.S. exceeds the State of Minnesota’s requirements for teaching. Our faculty stay in contact with students after graduation to keep improving and adapting courses so they meet the changing needs of high school teachers today. Suggestions that former students have made that the department has adopted are:

  • Adding professional writing courses.
  • Adding the course: Teaching Writing in Secondary Schools, one of the most valuable courses according to alumni.
  • Having recent graduates visit Bemidji State to share their experiences with current students.

The close relationship between Bemidji State University and current high school teachers allows the English Education to remain innovative and strong.

The English education program also explores many aspects of literature, from American Literature to Literature in Film. The variety of classes offered gives future teachers the opportunity to become well-rounded experts in the world of language arts. This program equips students not just with a library of knowledge to inform their future classrooms, but also with the skills needed to become top-notch educators.

Upon the completion of this program, students will be fully prepared for teaching licensure.
