At the Student Center for Health & Counseling (SCHC), we accept many major health insurance plans. Bring your insurance card to every appointment or email front and back photos to healthservices@bemidjistate.edu.

As a reminder, all on campus counseling services are free.

Billing

Medical services are billed to insurance, but health insurance is not required to have an appointment. There is no payment at the time of service.

Our billing company, Compu-Med, will bill your insurance that we have on file. After insurance has paid its portion, any remaining balance that is owed will be placed on your student account. Bills can be paid online in your E-Services account or at the Cashiers office (located on 2nd floor of Deputy Hall).

For questions regarding your bill, please call Compu-Med at (701) 282-0081.

Cost

Because insurance coverage and benefits vary, we cannot provide exact out-of-pocket costs ahead of time. You can review our ‘Paying Without Insurance’ section for general rates, and you’re entitled to a Good Faith Estimate under federal law.

Paying Without Insurance

If you don’t have insurance or prefer not to use it, you can choose our self-pay option with reduced rates. To get a self-pay agreement and charge list, contact SCHC directly.

Estimated self-pay costs:

  • New Patient Appointments $50 – $120
  • Established Patient Appointments $20 – $135
  • Annual Physical/Preventative New Patient $100 – $110
  • Annual Physical/Preventative Est. Patient $85 – $95
  • Rapid Strep Test $17
  • Urine Pregnancy $10
  • Chlamydia/Gonorrhea/Trichomonas Screening $70

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of their bill for health care items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

If you schedule a health care service at least 3 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day after scheduling. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Insurance

We can help determine if you qualify for insurance coverage, whether you are a US or international student.

Want Help Getting Insurance?

Getting health insurance is complicated. If you don’t currently have insurance, there are resources in the community to help. MNsure is a marketplace to shop for insurance plans. Once a person completes an application, MNsure will show the options available to you.

MNsure is available to US students. While international students are required to use United Healthcare insurance, international students can access MNsure to determine if their dependents are eligible for insurance.

Please contact our Care Coordinator for free assistance navigating health insurance resources by email at samantha.clausen@bemidjistate.edu or by phone at (218) 755-2024.

International Student Insurance

Through United Healthcare Student Resources, international students can check coverage and benefits, print insurance cards, view claims and update their address. While international students are required to use United Healthcare insurance, international students can access MNsure to determine if their dependents are eligible for insurance.

Verify your benefits before you receive a medical service. Depending on where you receive medical treatment, there may be differences in cost for the same services. Not all services provided at a medical facility are covered by your insurance plan.
