Counseling services are available at no additional cost to students enrolled in 3 or more credits or who have paid the health services fee.

Our records are confidential and separate from your academic record. Information about you, your visits, even acknowledgment that you have been seen is confidential and will not be discussed with anyone without your permission. Please be mindful that safety is our top priority and we are considered mandated reporters and certain situations require us to notify appropriate sources.

Note: There is a charge for psychiatry services. Bemidji State has two nurse practitioners on campus that can prescribe mental health medications. Student insurance can be billed or there is a self-pay option.

On Campus

While our counseling services are available on campus, we also offer virtual sessions. Counseling at Bemidji State focuses on preventative care, so you don’t need a diagnosis to access services. Students’ families will not be notified about students accessing counseling services because we don’t bill insurance.

Common interventions include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Skills
