Optivation offers online hiring practices training

Hiring the right person for an open position requires more than putting an ad in the paper. Optivation, which offers custom online and in-person training through its affiliations with Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College, will teach managers how to hire the perfect employee, beginning in October.

“How to Hire the Right Person” begins Oct. 15 and runs through Oct. 28, and is presented online. The course, taught by Bemidji State alum Lyndi Odegard, carries a registration fee of $200 and has a registration deadline of Oct. 8.

The course will train small businesses that do not have human resources departments – but are in need of services traditionally provided by an HR department – on the importance of proper documents for the hiring process. Participants in the course will learn how to create those documents, how to analyze jobs to determine the skills necessary for that job and appropriate job titles, where and how to post job opportunities, and best practices for documentation during the application and interview processes.

After completing the course, participants will have a streamlined, easy-to-reproduce method of recruiting, interviewing and hiring employees.
