Why did you choose to major in psychology?

Student in a mask giving a presentationI chose to major in psychology while obtaining my associate degree. I began learning about generational trauma in Indigenous communities and this is what led to my decision in majoring in psychology.

Is the psychology department meeting your expectations? If yes, in what ways?

Yes, the psychology department met my expectations in many ways. The professors at Bemidji State University were always willing to help me understand new concepts when I had difficulties. They were also very understanding of life events when I needed extra time with assignments.

While at BSU, I became a part of Indigenous Students in Psychology Training and this is where I received all of my training for life after graduation. The faculty involved with InPsyT did an amazing job of preparing me for life after graduation. I was an online student, if I had attended in person I may have received more preparation from other faculty members.

What about your experience with the BSU psychology department are you happy with?

I am happy about every experience in the psychology department at BSU. I gained a great amount of knowledge and enjoyed the content of every course I took, even the required courses.

What would you say to prospective students interested in joining BSU as a psychology major?

BSU is a great choice, very inclusive and validating for students. Communication is key with professors, as long as you talk with them they are understanding.
