About the Department

The Department of Public Safety provides safety and security to the campus community and continually strives to foster a higher quality of life and a safe and secure environment where diverse, social, cultural and academic values are allowed to develop and prosper.

The Department of Public Safety is a division of Bemidji State University’s Office of Finance and Administration. This department is responsible for all campus security, environmental health & safety and parking enforcement at both BSU and Northwest Technical College (NTC). The department is comprised of fulltime professional and part-time paraprofessional officers. Public Safety Officers are not licensed police officers and do not possess the power of arrest as defined by Minnesota State Statute. The President of BSU has granted the Department of Public Safety the authority to take appropriate actions necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment on all property owned, leased or occupied by BSU and NTC.
