Melanie Klimpel

About NAME

Hi, My name is Melanie Klimpel. I am from Mankato, Minnesota, located in south-central Minnesota in the heart of the Minnesota River Valley. I am a senior and a transfer student. I will be graduating this spring with a Bachelors of Arts in Individualized Studies, with minors in Design and Studio Arts. I transferred from South Central College, North Mankato, with an A.A.S. in Graphic Communications (Graphic Design, Web Design, Print Production). I’ve enjoyed my journey at Bemidji State and within the school of TAD, I’ve been able to grow as an artist and designer because of this. I’ve also been given the opportunity to expand my career horizons! Outside of school, I am an avid freestyle snowboarder and sponsored snow skater for the company Hovland Snow Skates. I have had my personal art & design company, MAKArt Productions, since 2014. Through MAK Art Productions I do work as a freelance graphic designer, live event painter, studio painter and featured vendor and artist at music and arts festivals across the mid-west.

Presentation Description

For my presentation, I will be showcasing 4 different pieces that reflect my chosen academic and career pathways, as well as my work as an individual artist. The first is a freelance package of show poster design works and branding aspects such as logos, t-shirt designs, sticker designs, album artwork and more show poster designs, together and apart for Minnesota musicians Charlie Parr and Kind Country. The second piece will be logo design work for Nevis, MN’s 2021 Muskie Days Music Festival and 70th Anniversary event. The third piece I will present is a 3D model/exhibit both recreation design, that highlights my 3DS Max software design skills through renders. The fourth and final piece I will present is a commission and studio painting, titled ‘The Electric Elephant’. This painting was also featured and published as the summer 2021 cover for, The Vessel, a holistic exploration of the twin ports and beyond periodical, in which there was also an article on me as an artist. I’m excited to take you all on this creative journey with me, in which you’ll see my style through bright and bold colors and lines as well as touching on 3-dimensional architecture and client-oriented design aspects.
