Climbing, cross country skiing classes offered in February

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University’s Outdoor Programming Center (OPC) will offer introductory courses in climbing and cross-country skiing during the week of Feb. 11.

• Cross-country skiing
The OPC’s introductory cross-country skiing class will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11.

Free and open to the public, the class will teach basic skills including proper balance, turning and recovering from a fall. OPC will provide all equipment.

Participants will meet at the OPC office and take a shuttle to a ski trail. Location depends on snow conditions. Those interested in attending should call to reserve a spot.

• Climbing
The OPC’s climbing class will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the climbing wall in the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center.

Free and open to the public, the class is tailored for beginners, including instruction about knots, climbing equipment and basic techniques. OPC will provide harnesses and climbing shoes. There is no recreation center admission charge for this class.
