BSU student wins scholarship from MSUSA

BEMIDJI, Minn. (May 17, 2010) – Cheree Johnson, a sophomore in marketing communication at Bemidji State University, has been chosen as the first recipient of the Minnesota State University Association’s Jared P. Stene Student Leadership Scholarship.

In Nov. 2007, the Minnesota State University Student Association lost a highly valued student leader. Jared Paul Stene led his peers in advocacy for public higher education and was able to make a real and lasting impact during his all-too-short life.

In an effort to recognize his leadership and commitment, the association’s Board of Directors created the Jared P. Stene Student Leadership Scholarship. The scholarship honors Stene’s accomplishments and helps advance his belief in opportunity for all who wished to pursue higher education. The scholarship is awarded to students who share his leadership and passion for student advocacy.

The scholarship is open to applicants from the seven four-year universities in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
