Upcoming events at the Outdoor Program Center

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sept. 9, 2011) — Bemidji State University’s Outdoor Program Center will hold an introduction to climbing at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center’s climbing wall, a bike repair boot at the Worldwide Day of Play and a mountain bike trail ride in activities scheduled for later this month.

Tuesday, Sept. 20 – Intro to Climbing, 6 p.m. Cost: free; contact OPC at (218) 755-3900 to sign up or for additional information.
Learn the essentials that everyone needs to know to become a climber: knots, safety, movement, better belaying, and basic equipment. All gear provided, beginners are welcome to attend. Meet at the rock wall.

Saturday, Sept. 24World Wide Day of Play, Cost: free; contact OPC at (218) 755-3900 for information.
Explore what Bemidji has to offer with vendor booths, demonstrations, a trail ride and other bike events. Free bike tune ups provided by OPC under the green tent.

Sunday, Sept. 25Access Fund Cleanup at Elys Peak and Casket Quarry, contact OPC at (218) 755-3900 for information.
A trail building and clean up held at the popular ice climbing quarry in Duluth. Please bring heavy gloves, pants and boots. We will spend the day with other climbing groups from the Twin Cities and Duluth picking the junk out of this great crag. We’ll catch some climbing at Ely’s peak on the way home.

Sunday, Sept. 25 – Mountain BIke Trail Ride at Cuyuna Lakes State Trail, cost: $45; contact OPC at (218) 755-3900 for information.
Since opening in June, this 24 mile trail system near Crosby MN has received rave reviews from beginners and experts alike. This is real mountain-style single track built by bikers for bikers. We will camp out Saturday night and get an early start. Lakes for swimming. Breakfast and lunch included.  Pretrip meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at BSU waterfront – bring your bike if it needs any work.
