BSU Outdoor Programming Center Set for Ice Climbing on Feb. 5

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Jan. 23, 2012) — Bemidji State University’s Outdoor Program continues its winter activity schedule with ice climbing at Casket Quarry Duluth on Feb. 5.

Cost for the trip is $30 and includes rental gear, instruction, and transportation.  Meals are not included.   Vans will leave the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center on the Bemidji State campus before sunrise, pick up rental boots in Duluth, and proceed to spend the day top roping on climbs of varying difficulty.

The ice climbing trip allows participants to try the dark art of climbing ice with experienced instructors to show the way.  Ice climbing is a creative activity that engages a persons full attention.  All climbers must have previous experience with knots, belays, and basic climbing skills.

Those attending should dress in layers and wear goggles or glasses for skiing. Vans will return to Bemidji late Saturday night.

The date and location are subject to change dependent on conditions.

For more information, and to confirm dates and times for all OPC activities, please call Mark Morrissey in the Outdoor Program Center offices at (218) 755-3900.
