First call for 2014 Midwinter Interlude

Hello Everyone

As the weather gets colder and snow starts to come down, it’s time to start thinking about the 5th Annual Midwinter Interlude.

The Interlude is again slated for mid-February through the end of Spring Break March 14, 2014.  Let’s make this the biggest and best show yet. We started with 17 exhibitors in 2010 and last year had grown to  around 30 artists who contributed items or talents for the display and open house.

Last year’s Midwinter Interlude will be featured on the Lakeland TV series “Common Ground” at some time during the upcoming season, hopefully in January or February right before the start of the Interlude.

For all of you new faculty and staff who have not yet heard of the Midwinter Interlude, let me explain briefly.   It is a faculty and staff Arts and Crafts Exhibit held in the spring that showcases the talents of our faculty and staff.  It is held for a whole month at the Ramsey Gallery in Bangsberg unless we find a more suitable spot in the meantime.  This year we will feature a poetry/verse wall for writers.   We have an open house to feature those with musical talents as well as refreshments.  If you like to bake or make hors d’oeuvres, that’s a welcome skill we can use for the open house, as well.   Whatever your skill or passion, we will try to include a little of everything.

This is for artists of all levels, beginner to professional.  Even if your items have been around for a while, we would enjoy seeing them, they’re most likely new to us.   We’ve had items ranging from painting, woodworking, carving, jewelry, photography, mosaic, stained glass, knitting, textile art, crocheting, quilting, clothing, drawing, pottery, sculpture, fishing lures from bottle caps, music, rock polishing, Karaoke, drums, guitar – the list is endless.  If you’ve been on a trip to somewhere interesting, share your pictures with us.

It’s a chance to be in contact with potential customers, if you market your work, and a chance to toot your own horn just a little, besides encouraging networking between artists who might be able to share their skills with potential learners.

This is also a way to encourage those who have projects started to get them completed for the show.  Bemidji is a town that is highly appreciative of the arts and we get a good turnout and show of support.

You will write a short biography  of who you are, where you work, and a little bit about your art; we’ll take your photo and make a nice placard to go with your item(s).

It’s a chance to get to know each other, promote community within BSU and the surrounding area, share our talents and bring a little color into the blah winter landscape – a refreshing Midwinter Interlude.

You can contact me if you are interested in joining the exhibit or helping with the open house.   We like to start planning now so you can work on your items over the breaks.  It’s a fun experience, so please consider sharing your talents with others.  If you know of people with special talents or skills, please send me their names so I can encourage them personally.
