Online programs among Minnesota’s most affordable

Bemidji State University’s online programs have been ranked among Minnesota’s most affordable in a survey by AffordableCollegesOnline.org.

affordable-online-colleges-bigThe organization focused specifically on distance learning options from public and private non-profit institutions with full accreditation. It ranked 27 schools in Minnesota based on tuition levels, and Bemidji State ranked sixth.

Bemidji State offers a variety of online courses and degree programs that can be completed without stepping foot on campus. BSU offers bachelor of science degrees in accounting, elementary education, business administration and criminal justice; bachelor of applied science degrees in technology management and applied engineering; and a RN to baccalaureate program in nursing. BSU also offers online graduate programs in education and special education, and will launch an online MBA program in the fall of 2014.

“Online courses at BSU offer the same quality standards in faculty and curriculum as you find in a traditional classroom,” said Lynn Johnson, Bemidji State’s director of distance learning. “In addition to the flexibility online programs provide for adult students to complete their degrees, the affordability does reflect the value provided by full-time tenured faculty who teach at Bemidji State.”

AffordableCollegesOnline.org points out that over the last few years, traditional colleges and universities with proven quality have made online programs accessible via discounted tuition and assistance programs.

“For-profit schools no longer dominate the distance-learning landscape,” said Dan Schuessler, founder and CEO of AC Online. “So many of today’s top universities have added full online degree programs to their catalogs, making it much easer for non-traditional students to receive a quality education.

“Offering students great online programs is only half the battle. The colleges on our list offer students quality, flexibility and affordability.”
