Chasing Home Ice

Beaver Hockey captured three of four points in a crucial WCHA road series at Ferris State, Feb. 27-28, and holds a one-point lead for fourth place in the WCHA standings — and home ice in the first round of the playoffs — with two regular-season games to play.

The Beavers picked up a 2-1 win at Ferris State to open the series on Feb. 27, while a Bulldog goal midway through the third period in Game 2 was enough to force a 1-1 draw to close out the series.

The Beavers are now 15-14-5 overall and 11-10-5 in WCHA play. Their three-point weekend at Ferris State gives them a one-point lead over Northern Michigan University for fourth place in the WCHA standings heading into the regular season’s final weekend.

The league’s top four teams will host first-round playoff series, which begin Friday, March 13. BSU wraps up its regular season March 6-7 against WCHA-leading Minnesota State at the Sanford Center. Fifth-place Northern Michigan plays a home-and-home series against second-place Michigan Tech this weekend to wrap its regular season.

Northern Michigan took three of four points against Michigan Tech in a Jan. 9-10 home-and-home series, while BSU was swept at Minnesota State on Nov. 7-8. BSU can secure home ice on Feb. 13 with a win or a tie and a Northern Michigan loss, or by taking at least three points in its series with Minnesota State.
