Bemidji Pioneer: Otto on U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame team

Former Bemidji State hockey star Joel Otto is going to go to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Otto, who played for the Beavers from 1981-84, was also a member of the Team USA hockey team that won gold in the inaugural 1996 World Cup of Hockey.

That team will be enshrined in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame later this year.

Team USA finished the tournament 6-0-1-0 in the tournament and outscored its opponents, 37-18.

The Americans swept pool play then rallied to beat Canada two games to one in the final series.

Otto played in all seven of Team USA’s games and scored three points — including a goal and two assists — to help lead Team USA to victory.
