Bemidji Concert Series Continues March 7 With The Lysander Trio

Bemidji State’s Department of Music continues its Bemidji Concert Series on March 7 with the Juilliard School’s Lysander Piano Trio.

Watch on YouTube – The Lysander Piano Trio performs the “Allegro ma non Troppo” from Dvorak’s Piano Trio in F Minor.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Theatre of BSU’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. Tickets are available in advance or, if available, at the doors, for $10, with discounted student tickets available for $5.

The trio is comprised of Itamar Zorman on violin, Liza Stepanova on piano and Michael Katz on cello. The trio will preform Reinaldo Moya’s “Ghostwritten Variations” along with several other pieces.

The trio, which takes its name from the character in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream, formed at The Juilliard School in 2009 and was selected that year to represent the school at a concert in Mexico City. Since then, the group has become a regular on the performance circuit and a frequent competitor in world-class competitions. The group captured top honors at the 2010 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, a grand prize at the 2011 Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition, first prize at the 2011 J. C. Arriaga Chamber Music Competition and first prize at the 2012 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition.

In 2014, The Lysander Trio released its first feature-length LP, “After a Dream.”

“The Lysander Piano Trio is one of the outstanding groups of this nature in the United States,” said Dr. Del Lyren, professor of music at BSU. “Our students will learn from them about music performance, practice techniques, rehearsal techniques, and probably get tidbits about succeeding in the music business.”

The Bemidji Concert Series began in 2001 to help reinforce Bemidji’s reputation as a cultural center in northern Minnesota and to provide the Bemidji region with local access to world-class musical performances.
