Bemidji State Music Faculty Talent On Display at Free Oct. 21 Chamber Recital

Dr. Lauren McNee and Dr. Lisa Perry, adjunct instructors of music at Bemidji State University, will perform a free recital Oct. 21 to conclude the department’s Woodwind and Piano Day.

The Faculty Chamber Music Recital will be held in the Thompson Recital Hall of BSU’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex at 7:30 p.m. The recital is free and open to the public.

McNee, a flutist, and Perry, who plays clarinet, are well-established musicians who are each in their first year on the Bemidji State faculty.

Their recital will include Heather Guidry, adjunct instructor of music, on the oboe; Jacquelyn Schaffer, a former adjunct music instructor at BSU, on French horn; Miriam Webber, assistant professor of music, playing the bassoon; and Dr. Stephen Carlson, professor of music, on the piano.

The recital will include three unique pieces:

  • Quintet for Piano and Winds in E flat major, K. 452 — Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds, K. 452 was written during his prime. The piece features a concert like quality while being written for a small chamber group.
  • Sextet for Wind Quintet and Piano in C Major — Poulenc’s Sextet for Wind Quintet and Piano in C Major is one of his most popular works. This is the only piece that will feature all the performers in a three-movement 15-minute work was written in 1932 and revised in 1939.
  • Quintet for Piano and Winds in E flat major, op. 16 — Beethoven’s Quintet for Piano and Winds in E Flat Major, op. 16 was written when he was asserting his style and dominance as a composer. This piece has strong resemblances to Mozart’s woodwind serenades but with his strong piano style of his later works.
