Bemidji State University invites residents of Bemidji and the surrounding communities to join faculty, staff, administrators and students on campus Aug. 30 for its 13th annual Community Appreciation Day.

A look back…

President Hensrud meets with guests during BSU’s 2016 Community Appreciation Day.

The event, which will continue to be open to everyone free of charge, begins at 4:30 p.m. and leads into Beaver Football’s 2018 season opener against the Northern State Wolves at 6 p.m. Tickets are required for the football game.

Community Appreciation Day activities will take place on the university’s Centennial Plaza between the upper and lower Hobson Memorial Unions and on the lakeside lawn areas behind the lower union. A free shuttle will be provided from the parking lots at the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex and the John Glas Fieldhouse beginning at 4:15 p.m. Guests parking in the Bangsberg parking lot are encouraged to use the lakefront trail to reach the event.

Community Appreciation Day will again feature the “A Taste of BSU”, a free sampling of food items from local restaurants and organizations. This year’s food and beverage sponsors include Aramark, Big River Scoop, BSU Alumni Association, Culver’s, Golden Sun Food Truck, Jimmy John’s, Lueken’s Deli & Grill, Minnesota Nice Café & Catering, Nei Bottling, Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, RP Broadcasting, Slurp Ramen, Subway and Wollman Coffee Roasters.

Student-athletes from BSU’s varsity intercollegiate athletics programs will also lead games and activities for kids and “Meet the Beavers” sessions, and BSU’s legendary mascot, Bucky the Beaver, will be available for photos.

In addition, dozens of booths from various campus departments and activities and local businesses and organizations, along with a variety of games for children, balloons and face painting, will be available throughout the evening. Booth spaces are still available; businesses or organizations wishing to participate in Community Appreciation Day are encouraged to contact BSU Alumni and Foundation.
