The Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has voted unanimously to approve an extension of the employment agreement with Chancellor Devinder Malhotra for a period of two additional years beyond its current end date of July 31, 2021. With the extension, the new end date for the employment agreement will be July 31, 2023.

Devinder has proven himself in this role as a gifted, inspirational, and effective leader,” said Michael Vekich, chair of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees. “The process we have begun under the Reimagining Minnesota State initiative requires the kind of thoughtful and bold leadership that Chancellor Malhotra provides, and this extension will enable us to benefit from the continuity of his leadership over the next several years as the faculty, staff, and leaders of Minnesota State work together to shape the future of higher education in Minnesota.”

Reimagining Minnesota State is a strategic visioning process that will enable the scaling and acceleration of innovation occurring at its 30 colleges and seven universities.

“I am very grateful for the confidence that the Board has shown in me,” Malhotra said, “and I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving as chancellor as we continue on this path to ensure that we are delivering on our unique value proposition to the State of Minnesota, and that all of our students benefit from high-quality education that positions them, their families, and their communities for future success.”
