Dr. Ana López-AguileraBadge: 2018-23 Strategic Plan: Priority 4

Dr. Ana M. Lopez-Aguilera, Bemidji State University assistant professor of Spanish, was recently featured in “Hispania,” an official journal of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

This peer-reviewed journal publishes research on applied linguistics, cultural studies, literature, films and pedagogy related to the Spanish and Portuguese languages. Lopez-Aguilera’s submission, “Literatura infantil comprometida: El caso de Belén Gopegui,” which translates to “Engagement in Children´s Literature: the case of Belen Gopegui,” examines the political and social aspects of the children books written by Spanish novelist Belen Gopegui.

In January, the professor was also published in “Azulejo,” a peer-reviewed journal published by the Education Office in Portugal of the Spanish Ministry of Education. The journal publishes lesson plans and teaching ideas for Spanish instructors at all levels and type of institutions. Lopez-Aguilera’s article “Se busca… curriculo y carta de presentación,” translates to “Looking for….CV and letter of presentation” and provides advice for seeking employment in the Spanish-speaking labor market. It includes examples of job offers in Spanish, vocabulary activities and guided steps to writing resumes and cover letters in Spanish.

Lopez-Aguilera’s research and teaching interests focus on civic commitment, environmental humanities and translation. She is currently working on a Spanish anthology of eco-feminist texts by Latin American and Spanish authors.
