Beginning Fall 2022, Bemidji State University’s Department of Accountancy will offer an online 28-credit accounting systems and analytics certificate for students to advance their knowledge in the software used for audits and taxation.

Students pursuing the certificate will learn how to create visualizations of financial data and learn the skills needed to prepare reports based on big data for work in the accounting analytics field. Students will also learn to understand data models and key performance indicators.

Graves said the certificate’s online posture and curriculum will benefit the region’s accounting professionals.

“Our unique certificate will meet the needs of our northeastern Minnesota students, particularly those who do not want to get a bachelor’s degree because of time or financial constraints,” he said.

Additionally, the financial analytics field is expected to grow about six percent over the next 10 years and this certificate will allow entry into a very competitive and new field.

“Students with this certificate will be provided with a strong background in data analytics and their use in the profession of accountancy,” William Graves, department chair and assistant professor of accountancy, said. “Students will be recognized for their exposure to these concepts and tools as employers are demanding this expertise and the certificate on their resume will speak volumes.”
