BSU Hosts Día de los Muertos Celebration

The Bemidji State University Department of Languages & Indigenous Studies hosted a Día de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, celebration for students, faculty and staff on Nov. 1 and 2.

Organized by Dr. Miriam Rivera-Hokanson, associate professor of languages and Indigenous studies, she presented the origin and customs of the holiday. In conjunction with Bemidji’s Concordia Language Villages, participants enjoyed traditional Day of the Dead crafts, activities and food.

Day of the Dead honors and celebrates friends and family members who have passed away and is observed mostly in Mexico and by those of Mexican heritage.
