Public Invited to Sing-along of Handel’s “Messiah” on July 12

The Bemidji State University Department of Music will present its inaugural Oratorio Night with a sing-along performance of Handel’s “Messiah” on July 12 at First Lutheran Church in Bemidji.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the concert will feature vocal solos by baritone Dr. Cory Renbarger and tenor Dr. James Bowyer, associate professors of music, and soprano Dr. Jennifer Olson, assistant professor of music.

Dr. Dwight Jilek, director of choral activities, Patricia Connors and graduate student conductors from BSU’s new Master of Music Education program will conduct the Bemidji Chorale and Baroque Festival Orchestra.

Concertmaster Dr. Eric Olson, assistant professor of music, and adjunct organist Sarah Carlson will appear alongside the orchestra.

Community members are welcome to listen or sing along to the choruses of Handel’s “Messiah.” Scores will be provided or singers may choose to bring their own.

Those wishing to sing are invited to attend optional, but recommended, rehearsals at First Lutheran Church on July 3 and 10 from 6:30 – 9 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public.
