Dr. Jacob Haus Awarded $390,000 Grant for Deer Management Research

The Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund is funding a $393,000 research project submitted by Dr. Jacob Haus, assistant professor of biology, to support research into improving the management of overabundant suburban deer populations in the Bemidji area through archery hunting.

Haus has been a faculty member in the BSU biology department since 2019. He has dedicated much of his teaching and research focus to the ecology and management of large game animals, particularly white-tailed deer.

Created in 1988, the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund is a permanent fund in the Minnesota state treasury dedicated to funding activities that protect, conserve, preserve and enhance the state’s air, water, land, fish, wildlife and other natural resources.
