Celebrate the Winter Olympics at BSU (Athletics, Student Life)

Celebrate the 2014 Winter Games with a series of events at Bemidji State University, beginning Feb. 7 with a watch party for the games’ opening ceremony.

Watch parties will be held for a variety of Olympic events, Winter Olympic-themed games will be held on campus and Phil Verchota, a member of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” U.S. Olympic hockey team, will be available for a meet-and-greet followed by a screening of the movie “Miracle.”

BSU Lifestyle Educators will also hold a series of events as part of Sexual Responsibility Week from Feb. 10-14.

Friday, Feb. 7
6:30-9 p.m. – Opening Ceremony Watch Party, upper deck in Walnut Hall. Free snacks.

Sunday, Feb. 9
1-3 p.m. – Sledding at Cameron Park. Includes hot chocolate.
6-10 p.m. – Olympics Primetime Watch Party, Beaux Arts Ballroom, Upper Hobson Union.

Monday, Feb. 10
7 p.m. – BEST Party Model, Hagg Sauer room 100. Learn how to throw a great party. Part of Lifestyle Educators’ Sexual Responsibility Week.

Tuesday, Feb. 11
4-6 p.m. – Safe Zone Ally Training, Crying Wolf Room, Lower Hobson Union. Part of Lifestyle Educators’ Sexual Responsibility Week.
5 p.m. – Quinzee Building, Lakeside Lawn. Learn to build this American Indian igloo-style snow structure.

Wednesday, Feb. 12
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Snowshoe Races, Lakeside Lawn. Free.
7 p.m. – Movie, “10 Things I Hate About You,” Beaux Arts Ballroom, Upper Hobson Union. Part of Lifestyle Educators’ Sexual Responsibility Week.
7-10:30 p.m. – Olympics Primetime Watch Party, Beaux Arts Ballroom, Upper Hobson Union.

Saturday, Feb. 15
10 a.m.-7 p.m. – BSU Day at Buena Vista Ski Area. $20 lift tickets, discounted rentals, outdoor cookout, live music and free shuttles from campus.
11 a.m.-10 p.m. – Olympic Watch Party Marathon, Beaux Arts Ballroom, Upper Hobson Union. Highlights include hockey (Finland vs. Canada) at 11 a.m. and men’s curling at 3 p.m.

Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 17-18; Thursday, Feb. 20
7-10:30 p.m. – Olympics Primetime Watch Party, Beaux Arts Ballroom, Upper Hobson Union.

Wednesday, Feb. 19
4-6 p.m. – Open Skate Night, Nymore Park Warming House.
7 p.m. – Meet and Greet with Phil Verchota, 1980 Team USA hockey player, Crying Wolf Room, Lower Hobson Union, followed by 8 p.m. screening of the Olympic hockey movie “Miracle.”

Friday, Feb. 21
7 p.m. – Olympic Movie Night, “Cool Runnings,” Beaux Arts Ballroom, Upper Hobson Union.

Saturday, Feb. 22
9 a.m.-10 p.m. – Olympic Watch Party Marathon, Beaux Arts Ballroom, Upper Hobson Union. Highlights include hockey bronze medal game at 9 a.m. and figure skating gala at 11:30 a.m.

Sunday, Feb. 23
7-9:30 p.m. – Closing Ceremony, Beaux Arts Ballroom, Upper Hobson Union.
