Mother Earth in Mind & Heart: BSU Partners With Minnesota Colleges on Earth Week

""

Each year, Bemidji State University hosts a series of events throughout April to recognize Earth Month. This year, BSU will partner with several Minnesota colleges and universities to offer Earth Week events from April 16-24 themed “Mother Earth in Mind and Heart: Hope and Healing.”

After partnering with Minnesota’s North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, the University of Minnesota, Morris, Augsburg University in Minneapolis, and the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Erika-Bailey-Johnson, director of sustainability at BSU, said she hopes the activities throughout the week will inspire a greater awareness of environmental communities.

“I’ve enjoyed working with folks from across the state to come up with a unified theme for this year’s Earth Week,” she said. “We hope to connect all of our communities with the interactive activities that we have to offer.”

Earth week 2022 events will be held in-person and online throughout Minnesota. A powwow hosted by Minnesota’s Indian Education Programs will kick-off the week-long celebration on April 16 at 1 p.m in the Blaine High School Athletic Center.

In addition to several new events co-hosted by Bemidji State, the university will hold it’s annual Take Back the Night, an event dedicated to bringing awareness to sexual and domestic violence, Stride Into Spring 5K/10K and Voices of the Earth short play festival. All events are open free to the public, registration is required.
