Other Ways to Build Your Skills

Review Proposals

To enhance your skills as a grant writer become a proposal reviewer. Below is a list of several funding agencies that offer proposal review opportunities. There may also be professional associations and foundations that are specific to your discipline that seek out reviewers.

Seek Out a Mentor

Are you interested in applying to a specific funding agency but are unsure where to start? Do you have colleagues or other professionals in your discipline who have applied and secured funding from that agency? Utilize these individuals to review and edit your proposal or simply share tips and tricks on what the funder may be looking for in a strong proposal.

Serve as Personnel on a Grant Project

Not sure you are quite ready to serve in the Principal Investigator role just yet? Connect with other professionals who may be applying for grants where you can provide expertise and services to the project in an Other or Key Personnel role. If this project is funded, you can learn about all the inter-workings of project implementation and gain valuable skills that build credibility and confidence for your own future grant projects.
