Wind Ensemble concludes tour with Nov. 18 concert

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Bemidji State University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Joel Pugh, will conclude a fall tour with a home concert 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, in the Thompson Recital Hall of the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and free to all students.

The program will feature a wide variety of music from the exciting curtain raiser “Awayday,” by contemporary British composer Adam Gorb, and “From Tropic to Tropic,” a thrilling circus march by Russell Alexander, to the beautiful slow melodies of “In Heaven’s Air” by Samuel Hazo, as well as the more eclectic “Cheerio March” by Edwin Franko Goldman in which the band members sing and whistle.

Two student soloists
In addition, the concert will include two Kent Kennan pieces featuring student soloists: Andy Cresap (sophomore, music and liberal arts) of Minot, N.D., “Sonata for Trumpet;” and Sara Dempster (senior, music and liberal arts) of Nashua, N.H., “Night Soliloquy for Flute.”

The home concert will conclude a tour to the Minneapolis area with concerts at high schools in Long Prairie, Rosemount, Minnetonka, Edina and Eagan.
