Environmental Studies

The Environmental Studies program will prepare students for the life-long practice of environmental science and policy through a variety of educational experiences.

The Center for Sustainability Studies produces qualified students who exhibit a high potential for successfully pursuing a career in environmental professions. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of professional practice and graduate school preparation.

The Environmental Studies program has the following specific objectives:

  1. To enhance the quality and recognition of our academic offerings. This can only be accomplished by increasing the complement of highly qualified faculty, thereby increasing curricular and environmental opportunities for students.
  2. To increase our service to the region by expanding partnerships and funding from external sources. This has occurred to the extent that current faculty are given release time for non-academic duties and through the addition of new faculty with appropriate release time.
  3. To expand opportunities for students participation in external work experiences, through internships and cooperative programs. Our B.S. program requires a senior thesis or internship, both of which provide students with practical experience.
  4. To expose all of our majors to the complexities of environmental policy formulation, including the roles of environmental, natural and social sciences.
