The Environmental Studies program will prepare students for the life-long practice of environmental science and policy through a variety of educational experiences.
The Center for Sustainability Studies produces qualified students who exhibit a high potential for successfully pursuing a career in environmental professions. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of professional practice and graduate school preparation.
The Environmental Studies program has the following specific objectives:
- To enhance the quality and recognition of our academic offerings. This can only be accomplished by increasing the complement of highly qualified faculty, thereby increasing curricular and environmental opportunities for students.
- To increase our service to the region by expanding partnerships and funding from external sources. This has occurred to the extent that current faculty are given release time for non-academic duties and through the addition of new faculty with appropriate release time.
- To expand opportunities for students participation in external work experiences, through internships and cooperative programs. Our B.S. program requires a senior thesis or internship, both of which provide students with practical experience.
- To expose all of our majors to the complexities of environmental policy formulation, including the roles of environmental, natural and social sciences.
